The Shelby County Museum & Archives is excited to present the 2018 Historical Cemetery Walking Tour at the Columbiana City Cemetery. Participants will enjoy a lantern-lit tour with a guide that will take them to graves of people interred at the cemetery. Actors will provide a glimpse into the life of the deceased. Expect to hear intriguing stories that are unique to the life of the person being depicted. Some of their stories you may find funny, and others you may find heart-wrenchingly sad. This year we are limiting the number of ticket sales to 300 because we feel this is the largest amount of people we can serve during the two hour event. It’s important to us that everyone has a great experience, and that the tour groups are a manageable size. So, don’t delay on purchasing your ticket. 250 tickets will be available through Eventbrite, and 50 tickets available for purchase at the museum & archives. Sunset is at 6:25 p.m. so plan to attend early if you feel uncomfortable walking in low light conditions. However, there will be adequate lighting provided by lanterns, candles and flashlights. How should I dress? We never know what Mother Nature has planned, so bring a jacket if cool temperatures are forecast. Wear appropriate walking shoes for uneven ground. What if it rains? The event will go on rain or shine. Bring a small umbrella if rain is forecast. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be cancelled. What is the refund policy? There are no refunds. How long does the tour last? The actual walking tour lasts about 50 minutes. What do I do while I’m waiting my turn? Prior to departing for the cemetery, you can enjoy refreshments inside the senior center. We will work diligently to get you to your destination in a timely manner, but feel free to enjoy snacks and socialize while you wait! When does the last tour begin? The last tour will begin at 7 p.m. How can I contact the organizer with any questions? Call the Shelby County Museum & Archives at 205-669-3912 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday or email”
